PA CareerLink®’s mission is to be a high-quality and continual resource for job seekers. Entering or reentering the workforce is a challenge job seekers must conquer, and we have the free resources in place to help them achieve not just employment but employment that can change their lives.

In partnership with PA Women Work, a statewide workforce development organization headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, we are offering the virtual New Choices training, April 26th – 30th. If you are currently seeking employment, this is one to consider. We recommend you start by asking yourself a few questions. What do you want to do? What is possibly standing in your way? Let this training open your eyes to your transferable skills – whether you lost your job because of downsizing or you have been home raising a family – we all have skills we can harness to shape our futures.

“We are here to help job seekers discover who they are – it’s their journey. In both group and one-on-one settings, we help participants set their employment goals and create steps to attain them,” said Susan Showalter-Bucher, Director of Programs for PA Women Work. With similar missions to transform lives through empowerment and employment, PA CareerLink® and PA Women Work are combining forces to help job seekers throughout the state. PA CareerLink® staff members are experts at helping to prepare and connect job seekers with employment. PA Women Work staff members are experts at developing the workforce by connecting job seekers with the skills and resources they need to tackle their barriers and move forward. Together the organizations provide all support needed to launch back into the workforce.

“Our partnership with PA Women Work is another example of how we really care about the success of our job seekers; we are constantly looking for innovative ways to help individuals find positions and satisfaction in the workplace,” said Gwen Fisher, Site Administrator of PA CareerLink® Blair and Bedford counties.

With nearly three decades of proven success, the virtual New Choices training positions job seekers for future employment. The training takes a holistic approach – incorporating PA Women Work’s wraparound services (helping identify and plan for potential barriers such as childcare or transportation, for example) and a warm handoff to a PA CareerLink® Career Advisor for job placement when training is complete.

The course offers the best of both organizations to you free of charge. Training does include developing a professional resume and interviewing skills, yes. Still, it goes far beyond by weaving in the importance of setting goals, time management skills, building self-confidence, taking calculated risks, learning stress management, and staying motivated and focused during the job-hunting process.

We ask you the tough questions. In the process, you discover your strengths, remove obstacles, and move forward.

Training is truly customized. You’ll do a personal SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) in class. Independently, you’ll complete a Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®), and a Strong Interest Inventory®. Following, your PA Women Work facilitator will review and discuss the results with you in a one-on-one meeting, helping you better discover not only where you are headed professionally but what your true interests and strengths are.

The virtual New Choices training is a combination of preparation and a self-discovery process, and at the end of the training, your PA CareerLink® Career Advisor will work to match and connect you with potential employers. PA CareerLink® Southern Alleghenies Region and PA Women Work are dedicated to helping you shape your future.

Let us help you on your journey. Sign up now and take advantage of this tremendous free support!
