Spotlight on Cambria County

In Cambria County, the PA CareerLink® CRC is located in the Cambria County Library. “Having the CRC within a public library is a PA CareerLink® best practice. It gives job seekers a great experience with resources from PA CareerLink® and the library,” says Jeff Dick, Site Administrator at PA CareerLink® Cambria & Somerset County.

Job seekers and employers alike use the center regularly, with partner companies such as Manpower referring their job candidates/applicants to the Cambria County CRC to complete online applications, as one example. The Cambria County CRC has a great location in the library and a close working relationship with Manpower of Johnstown, which also has an office in the library.

Both organizations are focused on helping job seekers find meaningful employment. “The partnership with PA CareerLink® is beneficial to Manpower in many ways. We ‘share’ candidates from time to time and make referrals to PA CareerLink® for services and support when candidates need assistance out of Manpower’s scope. Candidates I’m working with can also utilize the PA CareerLink® computer lab to complete their profiles and onboarding, which is a huge help for candidates who don’t have access to a computer otherwise,” said Ashley Reams, Staffing Consultant at Manpower, Inc.

The Cambria County CRC was recently remodeled with an upgrade in square footage, allowing for more computers and computer stations for privacy. There are also tables with laptops. “The space is inviting, and we welcome job seekers to use this incredible free resource. I am here to answer questions and help as needed during the process,” says Dawn Boden, PA CareerLink® Resource Assistant in Cambria County. She works one-on-one with CRC users, providing excellent customer service skills and knowledge about PA CareerLink® services.

“I love to help! Whether on the computer or sometimes just listening to what someone is going through. Helping a customer apply for a job and when they come back in and say that they got it is rewarding. Helping someone get into an account they have been struggling with or helping someone on the computer that has never used one (and is scared or frustrated) is such an honor. We get to know some of our customers and what they are going through personally, and celebrating their success with them is very rewarding! There are so many rewarding moments in this position,” says Dawn.
