With spring in full bloom, the PA CareerLInk® youth team is hard at work to match job seekers with employers. Our Paid Work Experience Program (PWEP) helps youth and young adults find employment and succeed in the workplace. We are in planning mode with our employers to ensure summer jobs are available for youth and young adults ages 15-24. The Summer Youth Program is part of the PWEP and is yet another example of how PA CareerLink® brings employers and job seekers together. We encourage youth looking for a summer job and employers needing help to take action today.  It’s time to plan for summer!

The Youth Program

The Youth Program matches employees based on skills and aptitude with the right employer. We go one step farther; it’s not just about finding the proper position for the summer. It’s about helping our job seekers overcome barriers and be ready for work. It’s our priority to provide one-on-one services throughout the experience. You will have a dedicated Career Advisor who works with you throughout your participation in the program. Think of him or her as a liaison between you and your future employer this summer.

If you or someone you know (ages 15-24) is interested in developing job ready skills while earning $9.00 per hour (plus cash incentives after completing up to 360 hours in the program), your time is now.

Employers have been seeking us out, and there are lots of opportunities.

Youth Program Success Story

“A successful placement positions all involved – the job seeker, the employer, and the PA CareerLink® Career Advisor – for success. Each person plays an important role, and PA CareerLink® is the connector,” said Gwen Fisher, Site Administrator, PA CareerLink® Blair County.

For example, PA CareerLink® Blair County placed Meghan Knisely at LaVintage Décor. PA CareerLink® Career Advisor, Mandy Lyon, has been instrumental.

Meghan said, “Mandy has been a huge help. Not only with getting me the job placement, which I love, but also with my college application, financial aid, and scholarship process. She has been a great resource to me. Because of her help, I was awarded numerous scholarships and have committed to attending Penn State Altoona, majoring in Elementary Education. I would highly recommend others take advantage of this great program through PA CareerLink®.”

Career Advisor Mandy commented, “We will do whatever is needed to help youth accomplish their career goals. That includes navigating the college application process, job placement, referrals to other programs, apprenticeship programs, GED funding, or going back to school. You name it; we do it all!”

LaVintage Décor owner LaVonne Falbo is equally thrilled. LaVonne heard about the PA CareerLink® Youth Program from another local business owner. Since LaVintage Décor’s start in the program, PA CareerLink® has matched three employees. LaVonne says all have been outstanding. Her first employee was a young adult out of school.

Lavonne noted, “PA CareerLink® makes the match, and I provide on-the-job training.” LaVonne takes a mentoring approach. She says Meghan is “amazingly creative and her poise with customers is wonderful. Meghan has embraced every facet of our business and makes us shine.”
